Edward Cheserek, despite his XC and Indoor titles isn't winning one this outdoor season. Lawi will defeat him in the 5k and Kithuka will run away from him in the 10. Sorry ches, but the freshman magic ends now.

The only way cheserek loses is if he is not in contention going into the last kilometer. Should be an interesting last mile of both races.
That may be true for Kithuka, but I recall Lawi outkicking Ches in the pac 12 1500
I think the 10 is his for the taking. Lawi will exact some revenge over the 5, I think. I have been seeing some if their recent workouts- ches, dunbar, etc, and they're definitely rounding into form.
Oregon is probably more about getting the team titles than in trying to get wins for the freshman Cheserek. I imagine Cheserek will settle for about 6 points in the 10K, leaving him the strength to come back for another 8 pts. in the 5K. Oregon would rather get 14 pts from him than 10 in the 10K and fall off the map in the 5K.
Agreed that Oregon seems to be peaking at the right time, both their men and their women's teams.
Yes, Roesler is amazing and will probably win the 800 meters (she will not go for the 2 minute barrier until later this summer), and it would not be a surprise to see their 400 meter runner (Francis) win that event as well.
It's hard to deny that they do seem to have a dynasty going there at Oregon.
Is Lawi not in the 10000 this year? I suppose its not surprising if he isn't. But its kind of amazing that a runner who won the title with such ease doesn't come back to defend it. As for Cheserek not winning a title. that wouldn't be too surprising. It could still stand as the greatest all around performance of the meet to secure a 2nd in two distance races. I think the Oregon team would be extremely happy with those points.

I think that Lawi learned a lesson at the Indoor championships when he tried to go for the 1500, 5K, 10K triple. After coming up short in the 10K, he was basically
wasted from the stress and the effort in the 10K. He then pulled out of one of his races. He (Lawi) was motivated by those two losses, and is more fit and ready to take on the Oregon kids at this championships--albeit with fewer races to focus on.
There is no indoor 10k retard.
Hey Mr. PUC, you are right, and it makes my point even stronger. Lalang failed at the Indoor 1,500, 3K, 5K attempt. He was foolish enough to try that triple, but it merely pointed out that Cheserek is smart to stick to two events and to not go all out for the wins in either. He will get more points, and less risk by going for points and not wins at the NC's.
Running for points instead of a win sounds like the most idiotic concept. These athletes trained their asses off during the season for a chance to bring home an individual title not to simply score points for their team.
A 10k/5k double is very capable from a guy like Cheserek.
I would lose all respect I had, not only for Cheserek but any athlete who competes for points instead of a win when they have the capability of winning races.

I doubt Ches has the ability to run 27:30 which, kithuka will push that pace by himself and considering he only ran 27:40 at Payton Jordan can keep it together to beat either Shadrack, who beat him at Payton Jordan or Ahmed who was 9th at Moscow ahead of Ritz, Merga, Gebremeskel, Levins, Moses Kipsirio, Derrick
And I lose all respect for someone who posts here with babbling ignorance. Kithuka has already beaten Cheserek at the 10K and he was beaten at both 10K and 5K in his Regionals, so why would anyone say that he could easily win both races at Nationals? The kid already has several individual national championships, maybe he'd like to get several team national championships as well. I guess you have lost all respect then for lots of injured athletes over the years who have lain their guts on the line for their "team". A concept you evidently don't understand.

People talk about the experience of being part of a team.
You can really tell in business the extra rapport that can happen with people who have experienced positive sports team experiences in their lives.
It's great to have teammates and build memories and friendships that last a lifetime.
It should be an interesting and entertaining 4 days of track and field. YES.
As for Oregon having a dynasty going, many we downtrended and sucked for most of 25 years, good to see the Ducks restore the tradition, it is good for the sport.

While it appears Cheserek was going for the win in the 10k at regionals, I'm always cautious of putting much weight on who beat who in anything at the regional meet. I don't see Cheserek winning anything easily, but my gut (which admittedly doesn't mean much) is that he wins the 10k and loses to Lawi in the 5k. Temperatures should be relatively comfortable on Wednesday night, so if Kithuka wants to push from the gun the conditions should support trying it (assuming not super windy).
Don't sleep on Jenkins in the 5 K as well. Also can't wait to see Fleet vs Lalang in the 1,500 should be a great race. I love it how Oregon trains it runners to peak for NCAA's expect 3 runners in the 10 K to score for Oregon and 4 in the 5 K Oregon could sweep the 1,500,5 K and 10 K should be exciting to watch. GO DUCKS
I think if Cheserek is in the thick of things in the 10k (Like in position to get 6 points) He will just go for the win. I can't imagine Ches being in 3rd place and just not using his kick.
Predictions:
10k- 1) Cheserek 2) Kithuka why?
Cheserek, just like the indoor 5k will sit on Kithuka the whole entire race (which is really boring, but that's what Powell will tell him) staying relaxed, and when it's time to go, he will turn it on... If this was a 10k on a XC course I'd say different, but I don't see Kithuka breaking Chez... If Chez would have been in the Payton Jordan 10k we would've been in the mix for the win, he's in the 10k shape Kithuka is, and keep in mind his altitude converted 5k indoor was 13:24 which was just a sit and kick while Kithuka only has run 13:26 outdoor I think? And we obviously know, Chez is faster in the 15, 3k, and it's on his home track... I think he has the 10k...
5k- 1) Lalang 2) Cheserek
Lawi Lalang- if it had been before the 3:36 at Pac12 this might've been different, but now he has shown he still has that speed that he showed last year in DL Paris (3:33.20) and Millrose Games (3:52i) this winter... With this, considering he has a 13:00 under his belt (no, don't give me crap about how you think Chez is in the 13:00 shape right now, 13:13 at best...) I think Lalang has this one... Let's not forget that when he ran his 13:00 he went through 3k at 7:41, faster than his 3k PR! So I think relaxing the first 2k and then kicking it out the last 3k in around 7:50 would make it to where Chez would lose contact
How about this; everyone gets a title. I think Lawi, Ed and Kithuka will each win a title.
Lawi time trials and wins the 1500 over Fleet
Ches outkicks Lawi for the 5k title
Kithuka runs away from everyone in the 10K
Everyone's happy. Except for Fleet.
truly the way it should be. mac fleet is a douche
and on what basis do you say that Mac Fleet is a douche. He seems like a nice guy, who is talented and works hard at training. He also seems to get along with his competition and his teammates. If you don't have something specific to call him a douche, then we all know who is the real douche here.
