Honestly I love drinking coffee. Although, I keep hearing mixed messages whether the benefits outweigh the cons, or visa-versa. I quit for a couple weeks after use for around two years straight, and really wanting to start up again.
Which elites drink coffee? And what are some other justifications that I can use to start drinking it again.
Which elite runners drink coffee?

I think it would honestly be easier to ask which pro/elite's DO NOT drink coffee....
Mo Farah drinks coffee within an hour of his races. I have seen this mentioned and quoted in multiple places. That's the most prominent example from the top of my head but seriously alot are coffee drinkers quite openly if you have them on Twitter and such you'll see it. -

I agree, I would guess its less common for an elite runner to not drink coffee. Almost all of my college teammates drank coffee. -
all of 'em

For Elite runners I think that Tx_RUNNER_Girl and Xenoscreams are both coffee drinkers. So too is Hingle McCringleberry but I am not sure he is considered Elite.

I would say all the elite marathoners have caffeine in their finish bottles

I know that most, if not all, of Schumacher's group enjoys a cup of joe.

Flotrack have a new video coming, in which, Andrew Wheating and Chris Solinsky discuss stuff over some coffee.
Coffee is awesome. -
Teeth are usually an indicator or coffee or tea drinking. Rupp drinks one of these two.

WTF is wrong with you? If you like coffee drink it, what the hell do you care what other people do?
Christ I'm obsessive as any runner with training but some of you are flat out nuts, and pretty creepy. -
Do elites do a caffeine taper before big races? I've seen some people say you lose the benefits of caffeine when you're addicted to it. So you'd maybe want to take a break for a couple weeks leading into a big race to make sure you get the full effect, but I'm wondering if anyone actually bothers to do this.

Can you not read? The OP is concerned about the health effects of coffee drinking. The literature out there is confusing, as there is strong research that supports both 1. the performance enhancing, health-giving and disease-protective benefits, 2. the negative health risks, of coffee drinking. Like any stimulant, coffee can have negative outcomes for blood pressure and be taxing on the endocrine system. I suggest the OP experiment with consuming coffee in intervals; that is, either on a weekly basis or some bigger bloc of time (say, going 1 month drinking, then 1.5 weeks off), taking "breaks" away from coffee, to allow the body to rest and to rebuild tolerance, so when drinking is resumed, it becomes that much more enjoyable, stronger and performance enhancing. Although, caution has to be exercised there--sometimes, when I've taken tolerance breaks and come back, the first cup of coffee back gets me so (i.e. "too") stimulated and messes with my sleep schedule. -

Yes, I've found that coffee drinking amongst American adults in general and amongst distance runners, over the years, to be more prevalent than I thought. It would be interesting for comprehensive data--statistical and anecdotal--to be compiled on the coffee-drinking habits of elite distance runners--how much, how strong, what type of roast, bean, whether they take it with sugar, cream, etc. I think coffee consumption is a much more consequential part of lifestyle than is thought about or discussed. -

False. most of the Ethiopian runners I have known personally (many, but not yet famous names) have avoided coffee. Maybe if they partook they would run better and become famous? -
