I'm working with a couple of older athletes training for the 200m and 400m sprints in the state senior games.
Both athletes are injury-prone so I don't want to teach block starts, so it will be standing starts.
Please critique the following approach and add any suggestions.
After warm up and a few strides. Line up strong leg (right let in both cases) back and weak leg at but not on the line. Lean forward and put weight 2/3 on front foot. Move right hand near the head with the elbow bend. Hold left arm behind the body with they elbow not as bent. On your mark, crouch forward. On gun, push off hard with right leg while simultaneously pulling left arm through forcefully.
They will do 4-5 reps of this to about 20m-30m at each track workout over the remaining three weeks to the events.
I'm interested in your comments, especially on what the athlete should focus on in terms of movement... I believe it's "Push off hard with right leg and pull left arm down forcefully."
What do you think? What would you do differently?
