Ive been running tons of road races and a lot of the good guys who race (AKA sub 16:30) will warm up in a pair of shoes, change to another pair for racing, then change back to the others for their warm down...why?
I just train and in my same pair of brooks and rotate my two pairs every day, not every run in a single day
How far under 16:30? 14:00?

you warm up in your trainers, then switch to light-weight racing flats for the race, then cool down in your trainers. Racing flats are efficient at faster paces, trainers are efficient at slower paces. generally.

Are brooks pure flow and pure cadence racing flats? I'm new to running and only run a 19:02 5k for my pr. Thats what i wear

In my experience I would only do the changing of shoes for speed intervals during practice to give my heels a little bit more stretch along with my calves to simulate the race in the flats or spikes I would wear. For road races it depends on how fast or how slow I would be planning on running. Fast=flats slow=stability. Even though I have seen some pretty legit times in regular neutral or stability trainers I would always use what your personal preference is. #more strike time, on your toes, minimum weight = fast times. Hey, if you are trying to run fast, then start training in some minimum trainers around 5-6 ounces and then use them in a race. Hope this helps

I agree with what was posted above but it also helps with the mental aspect of racing. I have shoes for racing/speedwork and wear them only when I go fast. It is like a switch in my brain/body that clicks on when I put them on.

The reason why I warm up and cool down in trainers is that I don´t want to do more damage to my calves than necessary.

yeah i know. i train mainly in brooks pure flows are they racing flats or trainers?
Flows are a trainer but build more like a flat with heel hieghts
So it sounds like you don't have racing shoes.
If you had them, you'd just use them for running fast.
I feel so fast in them and they have the perfect ratio of weight and padding
i dont know if id want to switch to flats. these shoes are good on trails and road
Switching between racing flats and trainers (Nike Streak LT and Nike Pegasus) is an issue of durability, too.
The racing flat (Streak LT) has much less rubber on the sole, less midsole, and less material in the upper. They will wear out a lot faster than the Pegasus which are made to take a beating on over 500+ miles.
Financially it is a better decision unless you are the type of runner that full time trains in a racing shoe.
