Efraimson popped a 4:33 1600 at the Washington HS state meet tonight. 800 to follow.

Megan Beauchane of Kamiakin also ran an impressive 4:48 with a 31 last 200.
And the boy's (scratch that, MEN'S) 1600 was super intense as well.

Holy sh*t balls. Anybody have splits? She's normally terrible when solo.

Holy moron. She normally takes it easy when it's not a "real race". Big difference.
You mad, bro?
She's bad at pacing solo. Do you disagree? Or have you forgotten her 67 opening lap at Arcadia? Running 4:33 solo is an unusual feat for her.

Those HS'ers, so unprofessional!
Nice! I look forward to hearing about the 800!
Not to take anything away from Alexa's performance but this is just a good performance for her not a great one. Christine Babcock ran a 4:33 1600 her senior year and was a phenomenal runner but Alexa is on a different level.

66.9-72.1-69.3-64.9
better paced than her usual solo effort.
800m prelims today; 800m finals tomorrow.

obviously not as fast as her 4:32y, but still a good race considering it was solo (and she has tended to not run so well when she's not pacing off others). This was clearly her best solo effort to date.

including a WA Soph record in the 4A race (4:08.50).

And ELEVEN runners under 4:15. I can't recall a deeper state race than that.

If that was the only time she's opened up that fast, that's not enough to conclude that she's bad at pacing. It's also not enough without knowing why she went out that fast. Perhaps she did it on purpose as part of a workout or something?

Woof. Makes those late-90s state meets when I was around seem like a jog, when the winner would run 4:15 and you could make a state top ten list with a 4:18 and a 9:15.
Are we going to see an Elise Cranny/Alexa Efraimson match up at any point this season?
they are racing each other in the dream mile at the adidas grand prix
WA state population has nearly doubled in 30 or so years. There should be more running sub 4:16.
Do the odds of running under 4:16 increase with more runners running near that pace? Yes, actually we should expect even more at this level than expected by increasing numbers alone. With a few fast competitors, the race is more likely to become tactical, lagging before a kick. Again with more in the race, more likely someone will deem it sensible to run hard early to avoid jostling or get position.
This isn't to say the coaching isn't better or the races more competitive, but still demographics are demographics.

New national 1600 record.
She's a junior.
Wind: look at the flag in the backround at the start.
She is in high-4:20's shape for full mile in a good race (has been all year, really)
This also beats the national mile record outdoors (if you use the T&FN conversion) of 4:35.24 from Polly Plumer way back in 82.
Also the best high-school-only mile or 1600.
Note that Cain hasn't run a mile outdoors since 2012 (I think).
