I could find a dozen proven coaches who have "Head Coach" in their resume and have zero character flaws.
Love that Wayne Phipps is a quality human, but his job title and mission is not athlete/character developer, it's to lead a program out of a dark time.
James Li would of brought back the Kenyan connection and it is vital to the success of the program because without those foreign runners, WSU can't compete against Oregon and Stanford in the distance races. USC and the warm weather schools will always have the sprints locked down because of their large populations and in-state benefits.
WSU's budget gets slammed hard with out of state recruits, we're talking paying 3x-4x the normal amount for the same athlete that UCLA, ASU, and U of A will get it. With a small budget, dominating in-state is a must. .
I'm chalking this awful decision up to Ann McCoy's lack of knowledge in evaluating candidates, and then Bill Moos poor recognition of a program that needs to be supported.
Donnie Marbut (WSU baseball coach) has been on the hot plate for a long time and he still continues to make a healthy salary and lead a program. WSU has dumped lots of money into football and men's basketball, but neglected the other sports. We lost a fantastic soccer coach to USC due to money. We're building a brand new soccer stadium, and updating all facilities, and we still lose a proven winner at the NCAA level soccer coach?
Thank you Jim Sterk (former AD, now San Diego State AD) for giving our fired basketball coach a guaranteed contract for little-no merit. Program is out 1.6 million dollars that should of been used towards soccer, track, and golf squads.
