I am wondering if someone has an idea of race day registration versus online/mail in registration. Anyone know a rough % for the number of people who pre register for races versus race day registrations.
I am thinking of racing this weekend and I know about 500 people have preregistered. I am wondering about the overall size of the field (hoping for a large field so I will have someone to run with).

I was an RD for a 5K and have been on several race committees. My experience has been that the shorter the race, the higher the race day registration. The dicier the weather at that time of year, the more likely people are to wait.
In several 5Ks we had as many as 1/3 of the people sign up on race day. For a marathon, we would have a handful.
Are you looking for someone fast or slow to run with? Either way, I am not sure there is a direct link to race size (prize money maybe, but size?). Fast people might come out to pick up some easy hardware and glory. Slow people might come out because they will be less intimidated.
ive RDed 3 races and each time race day entries have been about 1/3 of pre-regeistered entries. So if you have 300 online entries, then like another 100 on race day.

I am into my fourth year of organizing a local 5k. Last year we had 80 pre regs (including online and day before reg drive) and on race day we had about 140 register. Prior years produced similar results.
