What's a good workout to do 2 days before an 800m (or 1500m/both).
only ran one 8: got 2:12. Ran a 1500 and got 4:27

stick to the 1500 ...
2 days? Jogging, drills, light strides, stretching. Hardly a workout.

This. Mostly, you need fresh legs. I'd suggest a light warmup of 10-15 minutes jogging. Some easy strides with the last couple of strides being at 800m race pace. Then, after a full recovery... a couple of minutes... run 2x200m with a couple minutes recovery. The goal is to "dial in" your goal race pace so you don't go out too fast in the race itself. You should not feel tired at all after this workout.
Repeat the day before the race. If you feel tired or heavy-legged, stop after the strides. You should not feel tired at all. You may feel nervous that you haven't done enough. If so, that's good. Stop anyway. Save the effort for the race.
I have found that there are more than a few people, including some elites, who have no idea how to taper for a race. Usually same as the above is used by my athletes with a single 300-600 replacing the 2 x 200.
A 600 at 800 race pace 2 days before the race you mean?

Yes

Yes
good luck with that...
You don't think the 600 will still be in your legs a little bit?
I just can't see how that's smart, if we're talking an important 800 race. A couple of 200s to get the stride and the speed implanted in your brain is one thing, but a hard 600?
He said 300-600m, moron. Probably they do only a 300m at race pace before an IMPORTANT race. You shouldn´t try to peak before every race.
Before my pb (1.57) I did 5x1200m with a minute recovery close to 10k pace 2 days before, the day before I did 2x200m at race pace. I was a bit tired but my body was more "aerobic mode" and was able to run even splits.
If ity's my last race of the season the all out effort 2 days before will be 300m. Earlier in the season it may be 400m. If the race is 1000-3000m I would push that up to as high as 600 at race pace.
I would do it 3 days before an important race, not 2. But that's just my preference. I like 2 easy days before racing.
