In most meets, La Salle Academy with 9:11, 2x9:15 and 9:33 would be noteworthy.
Man times have changed since the '90's! -

La Salle Academy looks more impressive here considering they bring all 4 of those kids back next year.
The 3 from Northport are a bit like the 3 from Kingwood in '93; talented twins + 1. -
But they are loser #2, loser #3, and loser #4.

No they don't. The team that had 2 athletes peform at a much higher level looks more impressive here. That team is Northport. -
That should say "3 athletes."

Will have to keep an eye on this kid. -

I understand what you are saying. From a coaching perspective, I see La Salle Academy as being more impressive because they are younger and don't have the advantage of twins. Talented twins help programs look better. There are a disproportionate amount of twins on XC teams ranked in the top 100.
Even if you take out the 9:01, having an 8:53 and 8:54 runner is incredible, obviously. La Salle looks like they could have 3 under 9:00 next year who are not related to one another. -

And you're loser #1432597, what's your point -

Agreed. La Salle is the more compelling story here. -

Gotta disagree.
2 kids under 8:55 + another at 9:01 is much more impressive than 3 kids at 9:11-9:15 plus another at 9:33. One is rare, the other isn't. -

What's rare is to have 2 kids under 8:55 plus another at 9:01 and no relation between the 3.
La Salle is the more compelling STORY because there is the "what-if" factor, which is a huge part of running. Their top 3 have a legitimate shot at all being under 9:00 next year and a fourth guy around 9:15. None of the four being twins, that is rare. -

Hmmm, #3 and #5 have the same last name and they are not related?
3 Mcgowan, Tim 12 Northport 8:53.36! 2 6
5 McGowan, Jack 12 Northport 9:01.98 2 2 -
Many thousands more participating now. And much more emphasis on national level invitational meets.
The real trend in HS 3000m/3200m/2mi is as follows:
1964/ 1969 8:40 Lindgren (open competition) / 8:41 Prefontaine (solo)
1974/1979 8:40 Virgin (solo) -> 8:36 Nelson (open competition)
1980's 8:05 Trautman (regional HS meet)
1990's Webb runs 3:53 but does not race 3000m (his performance equates to 7:45 3000m probably sub 8 capable in HS only race)
2000's Ritz 2000 13:44 does not attempt 2mi record Rupp 8:03 (open competition) / Fernandez 7:59
2010 Verbicas, Cheserek 8:30 2mi (national level competition)
No high mega mileage runners on the list in 30 years -
But do they have tschirhart's swaggar?

That's why I'm saying La Salle is the bigger story. They are younger, unrelated, and have a shot at their top 3 all being under 9:00 next season. -
PEDs are a lot more available nowadays.
-
NO, the more compelling, bigger story is the one that has actually taken place (fact) over the story that may one day be told (fiction). Besides, the 8:54 boy is the one whose life has been severely impacted by autism. You want a 'story'? There's your story!

You make it sound like being autistic isn't an advantage in a sport like running. Mike's singular focus could take him very far in running.
Again, Northport is really incredible. I just PERSONALLY find two sophormores and a freshman at 9:11, 9:15, and 9:15 to be more impressive than senior twins at 8:53, 9:01 and a junior at 8:54.
