he is nearly pushed out into lane 2 on penultimate bend & then puts in a kick i have never seen by anyone in my life !!!

Quite incredible kick on the backstretch. A shame that the camera cuts away and we can't see the full final 300m. Hard to time it for sure, also because of the difficulty to see any markers. Nonetheless, amazing speed!

I get 11.xx on the backstretch and 12.xx on the final 100m.

Imagine what he could have run on a mordern track surface. Has anyone ever asked Jim what he could have done if he was in his prime today?

For sure - easily 3.24 based on that kick. Imagine if he started that kick with 600m to go? likely a sub-1.15 600m, so would have run sub-3.30 that day!f he had got into better races on good tracks with better rabbits - they must have had the silver league in those days (or maybe the bronze)?- I agree with Ventolin, easily 3.24, maybe even 3.20. No one can say with any confidence what Ryun would have done on today's tracks and with today's drug testing in force. I don't doubt he could hang with today's elite, but to suggest he could easily beat anyone based on a handful of great split times which cannot be converted by one simple formula or rule, is pure speculation.

He never ran in a single race where the pace was fast from the start and never reached 3/4 in anything faster than about 3:34. Put him in a diamond League race this year which goes out in 54, 56, and he mightf flounder completely.

in his wr, which started out as tactical race in 95F, he ran last 1200 in 2'46.6 including a bend run in lane 2

that is 3'28 pace & more like 3'27 with extra distance & even that wasn't flat-out as he had a 53+ finish, virtually all done in last 300

he once ran a 880 when feeling "terrible" & with a prelim 880 in his legs from coupla hours earlier in :

I stand by the sentiment of my last comment, although I meant to say that Ryun never went through 1100 in as fast a time as 2:34, not 3:34.

It's one thing starting of slow and then getting faster towards the end, but something else again to be able to start fast and maintain it throughout.

Running an 800 in 1:44 does not mean that he will automatically feel comfortable going through 800 in 1:50 en route to a 1500 or mile, half way round the 3rd lap. He never ran in any fast 1500 from the get go so you have nothing to back up the idea he could have maintained such a fast pace.

Is there any specific reason why YOU don't post the video on YpuTube? You want it to be on YouTube, but someone elso should do the effort for you? Strange. I have just little hope you will understand this, but maybe.

Some weeks back I have posted a very detailed analysis (which took me maybe an hour or more) of this race on letsrun which was immediatedly deleted by the mods. What an behaviour!

Ryun's finish in Düsseldorf was unique; I have never seen a finish like that. I must find the Aouita Grossetto race from '84 with a reporedly similar finish in a faster race. But RAI TV so far have not answered to two requests.

Bizarre indeed. Why on earth would they do that? Sometimes their choices on what to delete are beyond odd.
