In the 3200 Corcoran (9:07) was kicked down by Gidabuday (9:06) (#1 5k US HS 14:26 and #1 1500 US HS 3:51 which were both run on the same day last month)

I saw Gidabuday run that 14:26 last month. he was in the invite heat of the 1500m first, running in the lead for i think 3 laps before getting smashed in the last lap. he definitely would've been under 3:50 with smarter tactics, maybe 3:48

in the 5k he went out in the lead as well. looked to be pacing, but after a couple miles we realized he was actually racing. held the lead from gun to the tape.

i heard that he will be attending CSU Long Beach, which seems odd for that fast of a runner.

Slight note, though: Gidabuday isn't US#1 over any distance... he's #2 at 5k (behind Mantz @ 14:24.31) and #3 at 1500m (behind O'Toole and Maton @ 3:45.55 and 3:49.38)

And Tamagno, also a good name, is now within about 2 seconds of the national sophomore record, held, I think, by Jeff See at 4:06.xx mile, just ahead of Webb and Ryun. 4:06.93 1600m is about a 4:08.3 mile.

You're not supposed to notice things like that. You should be commenting on how the majority of immigrants (and their anchor-babies) make valuable contributions to what used to be an organized country, a land that used to have the highest standard of living in the world, the former US of A.

I believe that is the Under-18 WR, set by a youth just a few months older than Tamagno currently is. Of course, that mark was set at the Zurich U-23 1500M race that is slightly higher in quality than the Century League Finals.

Tamagno's got another year and a half to drop 18 seconds if he wants the record. Skimming off 1 second per month should be easy considering there are 2,600,000 or so seconds available.

Hulst's time is 4:09.1

A very interesting fact. Arriola and Hulst ran those times in the same meet at Long Beach, CA, on June 1st, 1974. Arriola did not win, I recall he was 3rd with Hulst right after in 4th. The mile PRs for Arriola and Hulst were those sophomore times.

11 schools in that league and the top 3 1600 runners combined still lose head-to-head (1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3) to the fastest school in the Century League.

League v. League, Century's top 4 are ahead of KingCo's best guy. Top 20 v. Top 20 the two leagues are almost identical, with KingCo's 20th best about 1.5 seconds ahead of Century's.

Gidabuday is American born, although he may have dual citizenship. I have been running (and losing) road races in SoCal against his dad for decades now. His dad is an immigrant and a really nice guy as well as a running talent.

How many runners advance to the section meet from league?

Im not sure on the technical number, but I do believe I heard the top 6 have advanced based on time alone.

You guys are comparing 1600 and mile times as if they are the same.

If someone runs a mile faster than a 1600m time, for all intents and purposes, it can be put on the list of fastest 1600m times. Anyone who argues otherwise is basically arguing semantics, and is likely blinded by the desire to have their favorite runner listed on the records page.

For the most part, all of the following can very reasonably be applied:

- Webb should have the National HS 1600m record with his 3:53

- Verzbicas should have the National HS 3200m record with his 8:29

- Cheserek should have the Indoor HS 3200m record with his 8:39

- Webb should have the Indoor HS 1600m record with his 3:59

Seriously, does anyone else gape at how stupid it looks when you credit someone who ran a shorter distance slower than someone who ran a longer distance with the record?

Sure, it wasn't an official 1600m or 3200m race. But all of the runners above ran a distance either longer than the 1600m or 3200m, and produced a time for the longer distance that was FASTER than the time for the shorter distance.
