So theory is.. purging as much c02 from your body as possible minute(s) before a race then having a good inhale (s) of air (O2) before starting
General idea here is you would delay the buils up of Co2 in your system slightly. Making respiration slightly less demanding.

400 is a sprint, entirely phosphate/glycolysis based + acidosis buffering.
Only thing it might do is make you slightly (unnoticeably) less tired afterwards, but it could throw you off your rhythm too and hurt your race.
that could backfire by making you think you don't need to breathe as much, reducing oxygen intake during the race.

But consider the Bohr effect:
Decrease CO2 = increased blood pH
Increased pH = decreased off-loading of O2
So once exercise begins, the increased blood pH means hemoglobin binds O2 with greater affinity. And if O2 is not off-loaded at the muscle, oxidative phosphorylation will be limited and glycolysis will run wild to meet ATP demands. H+ will come from glycolysis, decreasing blood pH and you're back to square one.

yes, but glycolysis > oxidation so it should be profitable to spend more time using it before switching.
Should, in a speculative, reasoning sense. But isn't, in a nobody-actually-does-that sense. If it actually worked, you'd see everyone hyperventilating before the long sprints.
