If I want to have a long (5+ years) focus, should my focus be on improving my mile and 5k now while I'm still young? If my goal is to run a 2:30 marathon eventually, should I focus my efforts on the marathon now or should I work down to 4:50, 4:40, 4:30 mile and 16:30, 16:00, 15:30 5k before tackling the marathon again?
