Why do we on these boards as runners interested in the training of greats, not do as much to discover the training methods of Mutola (built like a brick shithouse and the most dominant 800m runner in memory), Holmes (double Olympic Champion - not exactly a skinny runt either), Hesko (Northern European winning world class 1500s), Webb (Fastest American miler in ages - obviously no stranger to the gym) as we do when it comes to the high mileage guys. Do these guy run 100 mile weeks? I wouldn't think so. Why are they winning then and the very high mileage ones not?
I'm not slagging off high mileage training, it just seems not to be the method of choice for many great middle distance runners. Does anyone actually know how Holmes/Mutola train? - I realise that one's going to get some funny answers.
