Mebs Skechers

Why would Meb wear shoes with a midfoot bump? He doesn't. It would be nice if Skechers would remove the bump for everyone else, too.

Other than that, Mebs shoes are a bit narrower. That's it.

He probably doesn't wear the same size as you.

I have the go run 2 and they have no bump

I thought the GoRun 2 and Rid 3 where both listed as having a 12mm forefoot, 19mm mid foot, and 16mm heel? So maybe a "bump" is not the proper term but you do feel the shoe more under the arch than in other shoes.

Not sure on all the details, but Skechers custom makes Meb's shoes (at least his racing flats, not sure about the training shoes). Similar to when Nike custom made Michael Johnson's spikes. Other runners have had their shoes custom made for them as well by various manufacturers. I recall reading on Letsrun a few years back, with the Skechers custom made shoes, Meb no longer needed his orthotics (Can anyone verify this? I believe it was from a 2011 interview with Meb post 2011 NYC Marathon). I don't know how different they are from what Skechers sells to the masses. Skechers may say they are "similar" but what does that mean? Same colors and basic appearance/design? Would need a pair of Meb's to compare to see the differences the customization involves. Can anyone provide some insight on this?

The only difference is, his shoes are amazing and enable him to win major marathons, the ones you buy won't do that for you.

That is ridiculous.

The midsoles should be flat, 12mm, 16mm, 19mm front to back.

The big advantage with skechers is #1 light weight and #2 good fit. The disadvantages are the bump, and that the shoes wear out very quickly.

They would be much better if they got rid of the bump, made the outsole material to last 1000 miles, and otherwise kept them the same.

The gorun speed 2 was being worn until very recently by meb, the exact same shoe the shoe he wore in boston was the gorun speed 3 which will soon be available. The speed has no bump nor does the meb trainer due for release next month.

Like or dislike them, but I don't know what you're doing to yours if they wear out significantly faster than other makes. Not my experience at all...

There is a learning curve at Skechers , the 1st couple of rounds of shoes and just not 100% thought out. Fast shoes yes that actually feel ok , below average durability on the outsole. A little tweaking and keeping them at reasonable price points they may create their own space in the market.

Mine all last a long time.

I've not worn any skechers and probably won't, unless and until they make the obvious improvementns.

For all the talk about the "bump" The Go Meb Speed 2 doesnt have it. From the website:

Q: what is the exact height stack in the heel and in the forefoot?

A: The Skechers GOmeb Speed 2 has a stack height of 18mm in the heel and 14mm in the forefoot, and a 4mm drop.

Correct, it doesn't mention it.

Regardless, the shoes that Meb wears are nothing like any of the Skechers on the market. The GoMeb Speeds are what he actually wears to race in, but he does not train in any other shoe on the market.

There is a shoe coming out next month called the Gomeb Strada which is made specifically for Meb. It doesn't have a bump and has an 8mm offset. You can see a pic here;

Props to Skechers for releasing the shoes that Meb actually runs in instead of deceiving everyone and having them buy a shoe that is NOT the shoe that he has benefited from. Most (all) other companies custom make shoes for their runners and never let you know that and/or release the "real" shoe.

The bump is less noticeable in the new models than in those of a couple years ago.

The GoRun Bionic fuel doesn't appear to have the bump. It has a more traditional outsole. I like the bump, so I didn't bother to try them on.

So far, I haven't experienced any abnormally fast wear on the outsole in the GoRun Ultra and the GoRun 3. When I do get outsole wear in a shoe (like with the Kinvara) I just add a thin layer of Shoe Goo over the worn spots about the thickness of a piece of duct tape. It wears off after 3-5 runs, but then I just touch them up again. Given that adding more outsole adds more weight, I'd much rather have a lighter shoe and then just touch up the areas needed.

Nowhere did I suggest to add more oursole, which would do nothing to reduce any wear but probably just add to it.

Longer wear is accomplished by the composition of materials.

Probably a weak material was used, because, they know that it quickly wears out.

I've been running in the Go Run 3 for about 6 months and am a huge fan. I just raced a marathon in them a couple of weeks ago. My go-to training shoe for years has been the Kinvara, but it has gotten too stiff and structured, IMO. I personally love the midfoot bump. I was skeptical at first, but if you are a midfoot to forefoot striker, the shoe feels great and it just disappears on your feet. I'm excited to try the Strada, too, but am actually a little bummed that it won't have the rockered sole. As for durability, they do seem to wear a little quicker then most shoes but are probably on par with the Kinvara. More durable rubber would change the feel of the shoe, though, and I would likely not be a fan anymore. Plus, they're super inexpensive, so you can afford to replace them a little more often. Oh, and I have no affiliation with Skechers, I'm just a fan.
