Yes he had a bad race in Boston but he is "ready to deliver" again. Three races (2x10k, 1x12k) against world class fields. Ryan certainly does not shy away from competition.
Also good to see he is racing himself into shape in the shorter distance races, that (and god) should give him strength for a fall Marathon.

This is good news. I said in a previous post that Ryan should race again as soon as possible; a 2:17 marathon is a training run and probably didn't take much out of him. Hopefully he is in as great shape as he thought he was and Boston was just a bad race. In my mind, Ryan has the problem you find with a lot of high achievers in that when the results aren't going to meet expectations, they lack the motivation to complete the task.
He is probably just going to "tempo" through these 3 races. When was the last time Hall raced something except for a Marathon? Houston Half 2006?

Unless this year is a completely different story I don't know how Ryan Hall will be "racing" this year's Toyota 10k. Correct me if I'm missing something but it looks like last years race was won in 33:52. Did I miss an announcement of a new elite field?

Are you serious? He does at least 3-4 non-marathon races per year including the years he "couldn't finish a marathon."

Emphasis on "raced", not ran. He ran 1:02 Half Marathons in '09 and'11, but for a "2:04" guy, that is not a full effort.

How long have you been a runner? You don't run a PR every time out. Especially when your PR is really good.

Wasn't his most recent 10k just cracking 30?
Forgive us if we expect a little more from professional runners. Especially when their PR is really good.

The half's in 1:02 I can understand, that looks like some cruising at MP or just faster, and we certainly wouldn't expect someone in peak marathon training to run anywhere near their half PR
However, he was running a decent number of low 30 min 10ks if I recall correctly.
It's one thing to not run a PR, but when you are running 10k at slower than MP you're either terribly out of shape or not bringing a race level effort to the table.
What charity is he going to give his winnings to this time? LOL

I don't remember which ones those were, but if it was at 5500' in Boulder or in 90F heat in Atlanta it's not that bad. Last year he ran 29:16 in Atlanta with a dew point of 70F. Not very good, but not terribly behind Meb and Tegenkamp either.

I am also completely baffled by the "racing the 10k" at the Flying Pig. I know the guy that won it a few years back in 36:xx.
Last year's winning time of 33:52 was STELLAR compared to most years.
I would laugh my ass off if one of the fast Kenyans from across the river in Hebron, KY showed up and beat Hall.
I was considering running it and didn't know if I should be happy or upset he's entered. My PR is low 33; I ran Boston so was just hoping to have some fun going ftw IF my legs felt okay with strides by Friday. Might still do it just so I can (hopefully) say I came in second to an Olympian...
Funny you mention that. I also just ran Boston for the first time so my result does not match my 31 high PR.

He thought he was ready to win Boston. These races were all scheduled as appearances months ago. Plan was to win Boston then work on shorter intervals, hit the shorter circuit for appearance fees and go home and take a break.

Does it really matter what the competition is? They guy runs his own race and often does it with little care for where anyone else is. Sure, he won't have competition but I'm just happy to see him jumping down in distance.
