Heckled on long run in Portland Oregon. Best response?

Yell: "Move to Nevada."

I typically prefer the "Have another donut" response.

I usually flip them off, yell "eff you" and if they get out and confront me I make sure I throw the first punch to the nerve ending on their chin.

If I was in Portland I would probably kill myself.

Any response at all is a win for the heckler.

It may feel less satisfying, but ignoring the heckler who is trying to impress his friends (ever see a lone heckler?) is the cruelest thing you can do to him.

There were occasions where I ran with granite rocks in my hands, about as equal sized as I could find. Cars that thought it was funny to drive close to you, yell sht, or throw sht... Let's just say a few hoods were dented and a few back windshields were cracked.

The second rock made sure they didn't come back.

BTW, don't do this without a good escape route and some kick left in you.

Some time ago there was a thread on this topic and the best all time response went something like this.

"I dropped my shorts and backed up to the car window until my butt cheeks touched the glass. I spread my cheeks apart until it hurt. I wanted them to see. I MADE THEM LOOK."

Really, it's hard to top that.

Honestly, the best thing to do is wave and smile in a sincere manner. It infuriates people.

React like you just heard your friend say "hi" and it just drives people mad. I do it to road-ragers in the car, too.

I used to have an anger problem. When I would get heckled, I would stop and start towards the people. Generally unleashing a torrent of curse words. In EVERY situation those people backed off and went the other way.

Having grown up quite a bit since then, I wouldn't do this now.

If they are in a car at the light heckling you, go pee on their car.

BTW, don't ever do this where you'll EVER be seen or recognized again for weeks and months to come, whether running or even just out and about not running. People with a dented hood or cracked window will be out for blood.

Wrong, a snappy comeback silences and humiliates them 99% of the time. You say nothing or just laugh and they think they've got you. I usually say something but the other day a contractor clapped at me and said, "you can do it, you can do it," when I was inching along pushing the jogging stroller after a hard tempo earlier in the day (4M on the track @5:36/M, my first tempo in a while). Playing along did not make me feel better. Always knock them down verbally.
