I've always wanted to run a sub-2 800m and I'm wondering if this is a realistic target for me.
A bit of background:
I started running while in college (age 22) for two years focusing on the 5K, reaching a personal best of 16:24 at age 24, I was doing around 40mpw. I ran a 2:04 800m at a random track event but that was the only one I've ever done.
I then stopped running to focus on academics in my final year and ran very little for the past 4 years (I'm now 28).
In the last two months I've lost most of the weight I put on in the last 4 years through diet and exercise and I've started getting back into shape (I'm around 19:00 5k shape). I'd like to focus on the 800m, I know 28 is not an ideal age for me to start training for this event, but I'm never going to win any big races so I don't mind that.
My question: Does sub-2 sound like a realistic target or am I kidding myself? Are there any training schedules you would recommend if you think I have a serious shot at my target?
