Ted Corbitt Boston Marathon Milestone
April 17, 1972
On this day 42 years ago, Ted Corbitt broke Clarence DeMar’s (1922-1940) record of 18 consecutive Boston Marathons under 3 hours. Ted ran 2:49:51 for his 19th Boston under 3 hours. His streak went from 1954 to 1972.
John A. Kelley did this feat 16 times from 1935 – 1951.
Neil Weygandt broke the record going 23 consecutive years starting in 1967.

Is that a real record, or something made up?
I saw on the website where he didn't participate in 73 but went sub 3 hours again in 74. What was the reason for this DNS in 73?
His first Boston was 1951. He missed 1953 and as Orville noted he missed 1973 and the last Boston was 1974. The total includes his unofficial 1958 Boston. Everything is documented at www.tedcorbitt.com
I think Neil Weygandt is still on a consecutive streak.
His right achilles broke down on him April 3rd on a 20 mile workout. His diary on this date indicated that he may miss Boston.
Neil's incredible streak ended at 45 years with the 2011 race. His consecutive races under 3 hours could have gone longer had he not run an ultramarathon the week before his first Boston slightly over 3 hours.
I got caught up in the work week. Thanks for the info Gary. I used to enjoy a chat with Neil along the route. He is a completely tough rig.
