Because that's what champions do.
LOL at this:
"Webb has an enormous cheering section of skinny dudes in split shorts. One of his loudest fans? @ryanhall3."
I meant this one:
According webbs twitter , he wore saucony shoes
Decent swim of 10:56
23.7mph on the bike 35:23 for 14miles.
15:54 5k.
so how good are those swim & bike times?
The swim is slow. The bike is on the slow side for a professional triathlete. For this time of the season, the bike is good for a top age grouper.
Pro triathletes will hold that 24mph (or faster) for 56miles. New Orleans 70.3 was today and the top 25 guys all averaged 25mph or faster for 56 miles. And their swims were much faster for 1.2mi vs Alan's 750m swim.
Alan is just starting out so he has a lot of room to improve. And he better cause even though he won, he is just a decent age group athlete right now.
Post splits later when they are ready
i know nothing about tris wrote:

I don't think the swim is anything special. Maybe he and Hall just swam together since they're training partners and were beating everyone else, or maybe it's the "plus or minus 10 percent" thing. My local tri has people swimming under 10 for ".5 miles," and another smaller one nearby has people swimming like 8:xx for .5, which sound great on paper... until you realize the water is so shallow you can run 1/2 of it.
1hour 3 minutes is really bad...
It starts getting good below 57 minutes. He's more than 6 minutes off good...
He's surprisingly slow in the swim.
Hall is faster than him on the bike (that's not good news)
I guess that he jogged the 5k (at least I hope he did)
1. Not a draft legal race
2. Bike is 14 m not 20k
3. Not many age-groupers run 15:54 off the bike
Pretty good start for him I think.

Yes, I just saw that the bike was 14 miles (that's a bit weird) and not 20k...
To be ITU quality, he would have to be 8:xx on the swim.
Can't really make any sense of the bike result.. But it's either Hall is a good biker (kind of like Mike Wood became) or Webb is slower than a runner that just took up biking...
He's about 1 minute slow on the run (1:45 from the top guys)...
However, if his goal is just to be a good age grouper, than it seems that he is close to that.
dude seriously needs to grow some hair
not one to usually judge guys on their looks, but Webb looks hideous bald. like a naked mole rat or something
but he should get a real job. this is lame
I don't know jack about triathlon, but aren't the bike and swim times irrelevant without knowing the course and conditions?

The bike depending on the wind direction is decent, but not pro class. The run has expected is his best event
Swim and bike times are decent. Run was his best leg in the race for sure. It's fun to see him trying something new. I agree with everyone else though that has said he is just a good age group right now.
People get hung up on run times, but this is the last 5k of a 1 hr race. So really the 5k run should be at half marathon running pace, right?
15:54 is 67 minute half pace.
Ok, he should be faster.
