So I'm in my second year of running this event and it's pretty clear that I'm not talented like my sub 2 teammates. I really want to compete with them but I'm only at 2:06 and it doesn't seem like I can get any closer because we do the same training and everything. I want to out-train them but I've been told that exceeding my current mileage by too much (30-40mpw) isn't worth it and won't make much of an impact because I'm 400/800. Is this true? Or will leaping up to 60+ mpw over summer base get me where I want to be? And is mileage the only answer here?
What I've been doing:
* 40-45 mpw over base
* 30-40mpw in season
* Strides twice a week before workouts
What I'm planning to do:
* Build up to 60-70 mpw over base and hope that I don't get injured.
* Incorporate a day or two of speedwork along with strides after every easy run to drop my 400 time. (I want to keep this throughout the whole year)
* Lift 2x/week (Squats/Deadlifts) (Transition into olympic lifting during season)
* Plyos to go with the lifting.
Am I missing anything?
Am I biting off more than I can chew?
Help me not be slow anymore pls.
P.S.: I don't plan to run for many more years so the whole "steady improvement for future development" thing doesn't apply here.
