I'm female, went 4:55 for the mile and 18:30 for the 5k (roads) in high school so I was pretty good but not Mary Cain. Decided not to run in college, which is a decision I'll always regret. Fast forward many years, I'm 27 now, realizing that I'm about to start heading downhill physically, and I'm considering giving competitive running a final go.
I ran a 1:31 half a few weeks ago off of the easy 20-30 mile weeks I've been doing for the past few years. The women's standard is 1:15. Does that seem like an attainable goal in 1.5 years? I'd obviously have to up my mileage and start taking running seriously. I also have about 10 lbs of fat I could lose, which should help a bit. I know the mile and 5k time from high school have little bearing on what I could run at a much longer distance now, but I'm hoping the letsrun folks might be able to extrapolate a bit.
