I guess it was 2005 that LSU broke 3:00. FSU went 2:59.99 in 2009. UF definitely has a chance at setting a new record this season.

UCLA was the first sub 3 at 2:59.91 in 1988. LSU topped that in 2005 with a 2:59.59.
The UCLA 2:59.91 team members and splits were: Steve Lewis 45.1, Kevin Young 44.3, Danny Everett, 45.4, Henry Thomas 45.1. Three Olympic Gold medalists, and one of the all time best HS 400m runners.
LSU's 2:59.59 team members and splits were: Reggie Dardar 46.4, Kelly Willie 44.4, Bennie Brazell 44.8, Xavier Carter 44.0. One Olympic Gold medalist, another Olympian, and one of the top 200m runners ever.
The main point about these first two sub 3 teams is that the teams members were very impressive.
Wow!! That is blazing. The last NCAA team I remember going sub-3:00 was LSU in 2006. How many times has it been done? Still early in the season as well.
Holloway has sent a clear message to Texas A&M . Coach Henry should
consider retiring. He is old and not able to contend with the likes
of coach Holloway . It's like MC Hammer once said " can't touch
This"
Absolutely impressive teams from LSU and UCLA.
This current Florida team is pretty damn impressive as well. Arman Hall ran 44.82 (open) last year, as a true freshman, and represented Team USA at the world campionships. Dedric Dukes ran 19.97 at the Gator Relays this weekend. Hugh Graham Jr. ran 45.1 (open) last season. Najee Glass ran 45.7 (open) as a true freshman last year. Sky is the limit for this squad!!
Steve Lewis ran 43.87 at 19 to win Olympic Gold, I think. I saw him run 46.3 in high school at the Meet of Champions in Berkeley in 1987. Kevin Young later ran the WR 400mH at 46.7. So, the UCLA relay had four all-time greats on it, but they did not reach their potential in that race, not running any amazing individual splits with the relay benefit. Florida does not seem to have that kind of high ceiling, yet all these 45 and high 44 guys ran right there in this race, great work maximizing their talent.
Don't want no fake freshman running

What did Hall run his last split in? He was 3rd with space behind 2nd when he got the baton.
True freshman as in not RS Freshman. I'd think as a "coach d1" you would figure that one out.
They are pretty young... How can you tell what their ceiling is?

Agreed. We know those other guys from the past relays are great now, but who knows, these young guys may become legends one day

The Florida team could have couple of future Olympians on it. Maybe a gold medal or two. Things might not work out that way but the members of the sub 3 teams for UCLA and LSU set a pretty high bar.
Anchor was legit 43.9 rounded up. Made huge move at150 into leg and never tied up.
Okay... What is your point exactly? It is silly to compare post-collegiate careers to current college runners. We don't know what these current Florida runners will do. They may get injured. They may quit. They may fizzle out.
My reason for starting this thread is UF just ran a blazing 4x4, second fastest ever in the NCAA. It is early in the season. None of the relay members are seniors. None of them have used a redshirt. They may very well shatter the collegiate record. What they do in the future... Who knows? Arman Hall was the youngest member ever to run for Team USA. Dedric Dukes just set a pb in the 200m. No one knows their ceiling is... But we know they just ran the second fastest NCAA 4x4 ever.
maybe dedric dukes has the 200m speed to really improve. any high 44 guy can improve. but I'm talking about a comparison with steve lewis, kevin young and others. from that perspective, this team doesn't look to have quite the ceiling.
So... You question the ceiling of Arman Hall? Who ran 44.82 last year after his freshman year... Or Hugh Graham Jr who ran 45.1 as a sophomore last year? It's WAY too early to say anything about their ceiling. I guess we can agree to disagree...

F'tard.
The point?
The first sub 3 team and fastest ever sub 3 team had members who went on accomplish great things.
If you know anything about T&F you would realize the on the UCLA team the only non-Olympian, and their best 400m runner, was the anchor, Henry Thomas. Thomas, after falling to make the 1988 Olympic track team quit running track. He decided he was a football player.
There is your point.
The 'fake' post is one with zero information content and purely pedantic. If you are going to be pedantic, at least have some content to your post. It is one of the things that consistently detracts from this board. That a consistent poster who knows about the sport does it shows how little he cares about others on this board. For someone that is probably in his 50s he should just grow up.
I am very aware of what the members of those relay teams did in college and after college. Okay attempt at being a T&F historian but everything you said is common knowledge...
Did you read any of the other posts on this thread? It is nonsense to compare post-collegiate accomplishments to the accomplishments of current college runners. Fact, Florida's 4x400 relay just beat any time ever run by UCLA. Fact, none of Flordia's team were seniors and they still have 2 months left in the season.
Times are times. Florida just beat UCLA's time and ran .14 seconds from LSU's best. Florida's team includes multiple people that ran at USA nationals last year and are still young in their respective careers. Their performance in relation to other great collegiate relays is already undeniable. It was an outstanding performance and they are still young. Anything else?
