Hasay was pronounced the new hope for US distance running.
Perhaps "the Dutch girl" is considered the same in her country?

Let's get real for a moment. Most Americans are more concerned with Americans, hence the constant outrage over Bernard Lagat being the most accomplished American distance runner within the last decade or so.
This is also why Rupp is such a huge deal on this board, despite only having an Olympic Silver and several American Records, and why Solinsky is also a big deal on this board, despite never even having been on an Olympic Team.
You should very clearly see that Americans favor American runners. Taking that into consideration, why on Earth would you expect a bunch of Americans care about a Dutch girl?

For the record, she is 20 years old. Her DOB is March 21 so she just turned 20.
It's very impressive for someone who has a 15:53 pb.

I wouldn't say us Americans are that arrogant.
It's just that a) there are few journalists left so no one wrote about the women's 10k. b) few actually watched the race as it costs $20 recurring and c) it involved someone from a non English speaking country so it's even harder to find articles to link to.

Is she cute?
Your comment about the Dutch not speaking English is a stretch. They speak English very well, some would say as well as a native speaker. There is a video of Jos Hermens being interviewed by a Dutch running journal and it's in English. The point is, Americans rule the media, and Americans do not care very much about non-American runners. It explains why Canadian runners are frequently ignored as well, except for those that attend U.S. universities.

He is right that it's hard to find an article to link to for an English-speaking site. Lots of Dutch news media picked it up
Decide for yourself.
Wow, at 5'11", she may be the tallest woman ever to run that fast.

Kirk of UAB also improved hugely from 15:59 (outdoor PR, 15:44 indoor)
Because Joyce Chepkirui went through the 10k mark in 30:56 en route to a half marathon today. It makes a 32:11 10k pale in comparison.
we have finally found the real dutchrunner
lots of tall women from years past as in Lynn Nelson , Leslie Welch , Lorraine Moller etc..
Netherlands has a couple million less people than Florida.
We could brag if we had maybe 20 US runners like this young woman from Netherlands.
Natosha Rogers is of course better but was so exploited as a collegiate she left the sport. Lisa Uhl, was promptly lost to post-collegiate overtraining.
None of whom were 5'11" (181cm)
A boy like you wrote:

No reason for anti-Americanism here for a performance that none of us even knew about from an athlete no one here had heard of. However, this is quite a strong performance, particularly for someone with not as impressive pr's (9:03/4:21) at shorter distances (15:53 at 5000m and now an average of 16:05.x in a 10000!). This is just off of the 2012 Olympic B standard for 10000 (32:10), and more off of the A standard of 31:45, which Hasay just missed.
Note too that she recently ran 1:13 hm and aspires to run the marathon in the Olympics in 2020. Vastenburg does look very much like someone with A standard 10000m potential even within the next year and the shorter stuff should fall as well.

Damn hope Oregon recruits this young lady for the Netherlands Spelling
Exaggerate much? Where did anyone proclaim Hasay he new hope for distance running? She has a chance of becoming a top American but I have never seen someone suggest she is going to be the best in the world.

Chill, man. Here in Norway, we go on and on and on about mediocre Norwegian runners. Having lived in Germany a couple decades, I can tell you that Germans go on and on and on about German runners. The latter is the least patriotic country I can think of in the west, the former is the most patriotic. And yet, despite clear discrepencies in their overall level of national chauvanism, they tend to concentrate on the runners from their own neighborhood.
Quit fishing for things to get annoyed with Americans about.
