As to not tie this to any person or event, just generally, it is time really for runners to stop running on the roads.
Running or biking with traffic is just not a good idea. I understand the enjoyment of it, especially out on country roads. I used to do that back in the day.
Even with motorcycles (which are easier to see than runners and bikers), there are issues...won't ever see me riding one. My Fire Chief/paramedic brother-in-law calls them "donor cycles".
Feeling entitled or that it is your right to run on roads shared with cars does not protect you from bad drivers, distracted drivers, inexperienced drivers, drunk drivers.
I HATE the stories of runners and bikers getting killed by cars. It happens all too often.
I hope for all of your sakes, that you will not do this anymore if you indeed are doing it.
Live as long as you are supposed to.
