I am just looking for honset opinions. My daughter is 15 running her freshman year of track. She doubles in the 1600 and 3200, with PRs of 5:53 and 12:39. She is no speed demon but in her 1A division she holds her own. She also has no kick. Her coach has noticed and is suggesting for her 1600 that she take her 1st lap out in 1:10 then slow down to 1:20-25 for the rest to try to create distance. I am concerned that this strategy will cause her to exhaust everything and the rest of the group will catch up.
What are your thoughts and do you have any suggestions?
