I'm running Boston in a month and have been pretty religiously following the Pfitzinger 12-70 plan, which called for a tune-up run this weekend. Of to the local half marathon, maybe a little hillier than the flat courses that I usually do, but we're not talking more than a 200 ft elevation rise. A 1:27, not too pleased - but how would you recommend I turn this around next month?
Other races, basically following Pfitzinger 18-55 (or thereabouts for the halfs). 1:33, and in the fall 1:28, and 1:25. A 1:04 ten miler last spring, and I qualified for Boston with a spring 2:59, a big increase over the 3:15 I did two falls ago in my first marathon since picking running back up (I'm 44). Reading the boards around here, I would have thought the improvement would have only continued, especially given the higher mileage weeks, which are a pain to make time for as it is.
Don't want it to all go for naught! Advice for this none too fast runner? FWIW, I've been a bit worried it's all too slow before this - the slow runs have been 7:45-8:05, the tempos have been hard to get below 6:30, or for the longer tempos keep under 7. And all that snow, etc. But I'm not sure this is THAT different from last spring, I feel like I'm headed to running a slow marathon on a plan where it's supposed to be a faster one.
