...since Steve Scott set the outdoor American record in the mile (July, 1982, if memory serves). I belive the fact that the record has stood for 20 years is in fact a record itself.
I doubt Steve thought it would last that long, and I am starting to think it will be another 20 years before it is broken....
I hope that I am proven wrong! If not Webb, who? If not soon, when?

I seriously think Gabe Jennings might break it in a couple years time. He is just crazy enough to come back from a down year and break the american mile record.
Alan Scharsu was no slouch himself (though not on the same level as Steve Scott). He ran 8:44 in hs for two miles and went on to run at Penn State....
