Come on. The ACS started a couple days ago, so that was probably the first time the work was made known to the public. How quickly do you want the authorities to move? 48 hours is too long to formally investigate a potential new test?

The claim seems to be that the method is uber-uber-accurate--1000x+ better. The claim has not been vetted yet. If it does indeed work, expect the accuracy claim to drop significantly.

You also missed the part where WADA hasn't called them to use their method. Guess why? It has not been vetted by experts.

Is there a rule that they have to make the tests they use public? They should keep it as secret as possible, just telling athletes what things they will be tested for and not how, that way, when you get a better test you can bust half the field if everyone is cheating.

If people know the test, they can try it out on there own, doping enough so that whatever test they face won't catch it. This is obviously a huge advantage for a well-funded enterprise.

I agree, surprise the dopers! However, I think the rational is that positives are bad for the sport so if they can deter doping before it happens through fear they will have less positives to report. Unfortunately you are right, well funded operations can just set up their own tests using the new method (which is probably published in a scientific journal).

Read the story. They think the test will be reliable but it hasn't been fully tested yet. I'm as antidoping as anyone, but before you ruin people's careers with a test, a test needs to be fully vetted to make sure it works and is accurate. If it's proven accurate then WADA will presumably start using it.

Maybe they should announce a new test that doesn't exist. The placebo effect in reverse.

Also, if it truly is 100 times more sensitive and can "look further back in time", it may cause more problems than it solves.

What it could reveal is how contaminated our food and water sources are, and how many people have taken medications that are still lingering in the body.

Even if it is 100 times more sensitive, they can not give out sanctions for 100th the amount of a substance in the body.

Anyone who has ever had contaminated meat, that had clenbuterol in it, would seeming test positive forever, and if 0 metabolites are allowed to be in the body, then they are finished forever...until WADA is overrun by the approaching genetic revolution that is.
