I'm a junior and I have the worst health on my team, if not in my entire school. I've already missed around 17 days of school this year from different illnesses.
I didn't really get sick before high school more than the average kid, but starting freshman year, every winter I've gotten horribly sick. I mean a whole week staying in bed except to eat and shower, another week trying to catch up in school, and then starting up running again after a month. Once the temperature drops below 50 consistently, it seems like my immune system disappears altogether, I have no idea why.
I'm 5'11, 135-140, and 90% of my illnesses are upper respiratory problems and exhaustion/fever associated with them. I eat enough, though my parents are pretty cheap and i could go a few days to a week without eating any vegetables or fruits. Right now I just want to know how I can get rid of this problem. Will gaining weight help? I have visited my doctor several times and he always says just to "take it easy" for a while. I am captain of the team next year but I feel useless to my team and many people think I'm lazy because I miss so much practice. Can anyone help at all? I'm so frustrated at being sick I'm wondering if I should quit running.
