A. He never would have qualified for the meet - that is, top 16 times
B. At 5000 plus feet he would not have been able to run the same time he did at sea level.

I'm guessing the altitude had an effect. I personally think it's ridiculous that the NCAA allows championship races to be held at altitude (this meet and Pac12 XC come to mind). The altitude can really hurt some runners more than others, especially if they've never been to altitude.
We heard a couple weeks ago that Korolev was nursing an injury. He was limited to just one race at his conference meet (and he didn't win it).
