My college coach used to tell us to go out fast, pick it up in the middle, and then kick it in. True story.
Sounds smart. If you used those tactics you would have a great race
as an expert on race tactics I can tell you he was right. In most cases that would work very well

Yes, I slow down that last 50m in a 100m race when I start out real fast too....
