Can I go sub 2min in the 800m

i won´t say you can´t but looking to all the evidence, it wll surely be very hard. You need to cut about 10s off your last 800s and it certainly takes a lot to do that.

also with your 400s speed you won´t run sub 2.00. To do that you'd need to run about 57-58 first lap and that's about your full 400 speed.

you'd need to be able to run a 400 in about 53-54 to break 2 minutes, and only if you are very resistant, what doesn~t seem to be your characteristic.

Wow I'm really shocked you didn't run at least like 1:56-1:55 with your other PR's.

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to go sub 2:00 with those underage pr's. I doubt you can do it this year though. But with 12-18 months of solid stamina training you should have a good shot at your target.

You could be right, I did one race where I went off in 58 but tanked the last 100m and ended up with a 2.10 (1.47 at 700m). I have only run a couple 400ms so my pr could potentially be better.

Right now I don't feel like a runner been laid up so long but I do feel that I could maybe get down to a 54 second 400m, I have done 2x300m in 41.x with 5 mins recovery in training about a year ago. Last 100m has always been my problem, mind is willing but legs won't respond.

Coach always reckoned I was a 1.55 runner, however doesn't count for much when I never done it. Back then standard was poor in my region, I'd walk all races to nationals. So I only had one big race a year to run a good time and often they were tactical affairs. One race a year is not enough. Now days, 15/16 year olds have any amount of races to join in for good times.

I think that's the route I have to go down, my endurance is so bad that I have to improve my 800m time if I can improve endurance?

Hopefully I'll be posting in a couple years that I done it, always regretted not breaking 2mins underage, main reason I came back to running after weighing 220lbs, wanted to break 2mins so badly and didn't want to say I didn't give it a shot!

you definitely need to improve your aerobic capacity a touch and slimming down wouldn't hurt. I would say up your mileage by 10 or 20 mpw but if you are injury prone perhaps try swimming once or twice a week. 20-30min in the pool will do wonders.

with 51s for 400 and 4:32 for 1600 you were definitely sub 2 potential back then. probably around 1:55 like your coach said, actually.

anyway you are definitely not too old to break 2. it is doable. i think you need to spend a while purely doing aerobic work to ready yourself for real training (and lose weight). it is probably too late to try to cram it in before doing specific training for summer track so i think you may as well set next year as your goal for breaking 2. to that end, i would try for 6 days a week with a long run, a tempo run, and a day for speed or hills. the other 3 days are nice easy runs. the long run and tempo are self-explanatory. the speed day should be something just to keep your body used to running fast occasional. This could be anything from simple strides, short hill sprints, flying 50s on grass, etc. Nothing crazy, basically.
