Leer 7th in 3:39.60.
-
But Will Leer still had the best facial hair -- and the best pony tail (low standard -- no one else had one).
-
Led every meter of the race
-
Makes no sense to run the 1500m on consecutive days and give the 800m runners a day off. 3:38 indoor to qualify (for Leer) is not a trivial effort.
Wouldn't have changed the result; the other guys were just better. But would like to see a race where everybody has a chance to be sharp. -
What is the DQ for? All the women got DQd as well.
-
What was Willis' time?

Rumors from Sopot about the DQ:
When the 1500m runners passed on the 5th lap, famed Nike coach Alberto Salazar (who was standing track-side) smelled something resembling a fart. Always vigilant and standing up for justice, he headed directly to the referee station, and on the way determined that the fart resembled both Auckland and Ann Arbor, Michigan, and that the offensive odors might have represented an unfair advantage to those competitors downstream of the fart's source. Putting pieces together at warp speed - FLASH! - Salazar suddenly knew who produced the offensive odor: the same man rumored to be conspiring to steal the "white man distance medalist" limelight reserved for Galen Rupp! [yadda, yadda, yadda, several appeals later and Willis is DQ'ed] -
Willis was DQd for a lane violation (stepping on the inside of track on a turn)
Here is the Willis rule:
Rule 163.3b. In all races (or any part of races) not run in lanes, an athlete running on a bend, on the outer half of the track as per Rule 162.10, or on any curved part of the diversion fromthe track for the steeplechasewaterjump, shall notstep orrun on orinside the kerb or line marking the applicable border (the inside of the track, the outer half of the track, or any curved part of the diversion from the track forthe steeplechase waterjump). Except asstated inRule 163.4,iftheReferee issatisfied, on the report of a Judge or Umpire or otherwise, that an athlete has violated this
Rule, he shall be disqualified.
In women's 1500 Arafi and Kampf were DQd for same rule. Hilali lost a medal for obstruction. More coming from Poland.
Hilali's rule: 163.2b (b) if another athlete is found by the Referee to be responsible for the jostling or obstruction, such athlete (or his team) shall be liable
to disqualification from that event. The Referee may, if he is of the opinion that an athlete (or his team) was seriously affected, order that the race be re-held excluding any disqualified athlete (or team) or allow any affected athlete (or team)(other than any disqualified athlete or team)to compete in a subsequent round of
the event

Please stop the Jama Aden hoopla, especially regarding the fact that tafik mcdrugboy hails from that stable. It disgusts me.
-
Enough. Please. wrote:

No way, we should be hearing more about Jama Aden's group, not less. Though I want to know what that celebration ritual Souleiman and Wote did after the race was. -
The # of dq's so far has been staggering. What is up? This cannot be close to normal.
-
Is there not a rail on the track? There seems to be too many of these DQ's!
-
The celebration was the islamic prostration (sujood) which is to praise and humble oneself in front of Allah.
Didn't know that Wote was a muslim though. -

Yeah that was surprising. Haven't seen that before from any other Muslim athletes. -
