That is like sitting your star qb in a playoff game.

if by star quarterback in a playoff game you mean having the best young quarterback prospect to come along in a several decades just starting to come into their own with an mild injury and the game being pre-season, then yes I agree.
a little pervy choice of words it seems
PreciousSSSsss...Gollum will show you PreCiOUssssSSSSSssss....sssss.....
"We don't want it to develop into an injury," Salazar said. "Mary is too precious to risk running her in a meet when she is sore, even though she really wants to race. The best thing for her is to go home."
Salazar said Cain first felt the soreness a few days after she won the USA women's indoor 1,500-meter championship on Feb. 23 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Preseason? This is a world championship likely against the best runner she will ever face in her career and that runner is currently at the top of her game. THIS meet is way more important than anything else this year and likely any other. What else is there to do in 2014? Set some PRs?

You can't be serious.
Like the Nats shutting down Strasburg before the playoffs.

He's right.
Cain is burned out already. It's obvious in the videos of Alberto encouraging her to purge.

Run her, she'll be fine. What's the worst that could happen?
I really believe in being cautious, especially with young, high potential athletes, but this seems a little over-cautious. If she wasn't close to medalling, then ok, but she has a chance to medal at world championships...so she will sit out of world champs so she can...chase PRs in the early outdoor season?
Umm...ultra sound and deep massage!
What a bunch of frickin pansies!!!!!!!!! They have access to more things than any of us will ever have and a sore calf stops her from starting, give me a frickin break already!!! Risking her career????
You idiots who follow the "she's young and has time crap" are just that, idiots! I've never seen so many runners not run races as I have for the last 5 years or so. A bunch of wimpy pansies, period.
Hey troll response, eat garbage as you're clueless.
you people have an overblown assessment of the importance of the world indoor championships...
Indoor season is preseason, nothing more

you've also never seen American born runners run as fast as they have in the last 5 years...

How is indoor any less important than other meets? It's a world championship featuring most of the top runners in the world.
As a fan I have also thought outdoor was the real deal and indoor was 2nd tier.
Cain is burned out already? Probably the stupidest thing I have seen on these boards. She has PR'd in the 1000, 1500, and mile this season and has now become the face of American woman's distance running. Why is it that people need to find the need to try and hate any good American runner that doesn't act like Pre. Salazar is the best thing to ever happen to American distance running, and has turned it around.

It isn't the indoor race that Salazar is worried about. It is the post race workout he had planned for her.
