Why is everyone so content with medaling? Doesn't anyone want to win?

If Salazar times the meds right and gets a couple dq's she can.
It's tough to count on beating Aregawi.

Good luck Gabe!
This has been known for a long time. What will you tell us next? That we put a man on the moon?

Why are you content to sit on the World Famous Message Boards? Why don't you get out there and show em how it's done?
Still not enough international experience to run aggressively and win (or medal). It's a big step up from US Indoors to Worlds. First big podium will be later this year outdoors.
There are no big podiums this year outdoors.
In general though, I don't see why Cain doesn't have a chance. If she puts herself in a good spot early, you never know what could happen.
She will medal.
Here kicking speed can match up to anyone, so it is only a matter of her putting in herself in the right position before the gun lap.
She was easily giving up her position last year, mostly because of her lack of confidence in holding an aggressive pace and still have enough for a strong finish. She now knows what she is capable of and with her leg speed she will jold her position.

To answer your question: Yes, lots of people want to win.
I was very impressed with Mary Cain's race this past weekend, think she can definitely medal at Worlds, and possibly win - provided she runs the same type of race.

Agreed, she was in another class from the hand holders. It was like a professional running amongs high schoolers except the other way around!
I don't mean that disrepectfully to the professionals, she is just that good. Dissapointed that Uceny cant get back to form though.
WIC is not a major, so you can't "medal" at WIC. Sure the top 3 get a medal to wear, like after a Turkey Trot. But it's not called "medalling".

At every level, Mary Cain just keeps running out of competition. High School, NCAA, American Pros...she's pretty close if not at Jenny Simpson's level. Now she has to see how she can do against the African women.
Morgan Uceny doesn't look like the same person. Two years ago when she was ranked #1, she was totally ripped, very agressive. Now she looks ...I can't think of any other word but "softer".

.
Her kicking speed is good, but it can't match Dibaba or Aregawi. They are on another planet when it comes to closing speed.
With Dibaba and Obiri (3:58 1500 PB) running the 3k in Sopot and the Kenyans not sending Kipyegon (3:56 1500 PB), it gives Cain a legitimate shot at a top three finish. However, she will have to time her move perfectly if it becomes a kicker's race. She is so much better than the other US runners she has raced against indoors this season, that it doesn't matter if she makes slight tactical errors. This will not be the case at the international level.
Depends on how much pull Salazar and Nike haveon IAAF

Hardloper you are one of the dumbest posters on this website. Don't respond to my posts unless your response is going to make sense and not be completely stupid.

Winning should always be the goal, but you have to be realist as well. Right now, Aregawi is head and shoulders better than anyone else; Cain can certainly medal, but winning is a long shot. It is amazing to just think she can medal. You have to keep in mind that Mary has been beating women who can barely run a sub-60 in a 400m, Aregawi routinely run sub-60 at the end of her 1500s.

Medal? Do you pepole not read the articles staff puts out on the front page? She's already the huge favorite for bronze even if everyone showed up. So now she should get silver.
People are talking about people's PBs which is absurd. I mean if it was a men's mile - would you fear WEbb because he has a 346 mile pb?
2014 indoor times are what matter and by that standard it's incredibly weak right now. Cain just ran a 4:01 equivalent if not at altitude.
2014 World List
1 03:55.2 Genzebe Dibaba ETH
2 03:57.9 Abeba Aregawi SWE
3 04:05.3 Laura Muir GBR
4 04:05.3 Sifan Hassan NED
5 4:05.70+ Kim Conley USA
6 04:05.8 Yelena Korobkina RUS
7 04:05.8 Hellen Obiri KEN
Can she medal? I think she will medal. Silver for sure.
At this point, moser is probably the favorite for bronze.
(IN terms of mile times, Cain is #1 in world)

The question to me is, "Is it a good thing for her long term?" That may sound crazy but I've heard many coaches say early success makes it real tough. some had said the worse thing to happen to German F was winning NCAAs as a frosh.
This year should be about Cain winning world juniors (in Eugene), maybe in both the 1500m and 800m.
World indoors is nice, but it is definitely a second-rate meet, based on the few people even trying to qualify for the meet.
This focus on her (MC) being a senior star before winning as a junior (she has yet to medal at worlds in her age-group) maybe a bit premature and risks long-term development, whereas Ajee Wilson is flying under the radar relative to Cain - I don't even know the name of her coach - but has won both World Youth and World Junior at 800m. While Ajee is 2 years older (by year, I don't give a damn about months - who would?) her development is coming along quite nicely without all of the hype associated with NOP and Al Sal.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
