Im currently around 52-53 for 400 and just completed this workout:
6x300m
50-50-50 with 45 seconds rest betweeb
48-46 1 min rest between
2 min rest 42 for the last 300
Any thoughts?

Can you explain why you can't just run a 800 or 1500 in practice?
I run on my own and haven't run any meets yet. Just started speed not ready to race
1:59-2:05...hard to tell how good your endurance really is without more background. 300s are short enough you can get away with them feeling good without tying up like you do in a 400. 52-53 speed could get you sub1:55 if you have good endurance, but this workout doesn't tell us anything about your fitness.
do solo 3x400m at the fastest pace you can run for 3 reps, 4min recovery. average the time & double, there's your 800m prediction (at least that's what has worked for me in the past).

What does that have to do with my question? Again, why don't you just run an 800/1500 by yourself?
Im not ready to go all out racing yet, trying to get my speed and endurance together first
Thanks for the suggestion, definitely will try out that workout, I have run 157-158 before but took a year off, trying to get back at it!!

That doesn't make any sense. Why do you have to "be ready"?
That 48 300 looks like your current date pace. 60 seconds first lap 64 second lap. high 2:04
As your endurance improves your second lap will get better.
1:58
300m reps actually tell you lots.
Yeah I would expect 4:25-4:30 current 1600 pace.
The workout doesn't tell much without knowing your effort level. 46-50 second 300s should be easy with your 400m speed, even with the short rest. That last 42 probably hurt though.
I would guess your current 800 ability is 1:59-2:02
Oh and a good 800m predictor workout that you can do when there aren't any races in the near future would be 4 x 400m w/ 5 minute rests @ the fastest pace you can average for the four of them. Average pace for this workout = the pace you can run an 800m, or very close.
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated

This is a much better predictor workout than the 3x400m with 4 min rest. I ran the 3x400m workout in 58, 55, 57 on a windy day when I still hadn't broken 2 yet, and I only went 1:58 that season. 4x400m w/ 5 min rest is much closer depending on how relaxed you are at the paces you run.
Definitely heed the advice of doing it when there aren't any important races in the future. I ran this yesterday because I have 5 weeks to my next track race.
