Oregon native Sean Nesbitt says Colorado has the "best running fans" in country - what say you? Eugene or Boulder?

It's Eugene. I guarantee you that if you did a random poll of people on campus 'Name a current runner at your school', Oregon would murder Colorado. They would also win at 'Name a current football player at your school.'

I've bee to only a couple of running events that included elite competitors in CO and no track events. I think CO could claim to have better or more passionate runners but no way on God's green earth do they have better running fans than those in/near Eugene.

Agree. I'm from Colorado and Eugene wins, hands down.

I will admit that Oregon fans own the track, but Colorado fans own the XC course, hands down!

Hmm , not really , XC in Colorado is no different than other states with attendance. Hosting nationals in Boulder is great yes and they do a great job , but running fans as a whole , Eugene wins out.

eugene has more meth, boulder has more weed.

Every NBA/NFL/MLB city thinks they have the "best" fans but most are dumber than a rock.

Lived in both Towns. Hayward is awesome but Eugene is depressing. Plus the whole Darth Vader world of Nike is too much.

Maybe Eugene has the better running fans as far as college runners are concerned. I don't think Colorado students care much about track or XC. I can't imagine Oregon fans do either, but they might at least catch a meet at Hayward once in awhile.

As far as running goes in general, though, you've gotta be kidding me if anyone thinks Eugene has more "running fans" than Boulder. Everybody runs in Boulder. Tons of people run competitively. Boulder has the biggest and most impressive running event in the country that isn't a marathon in the Bolder Boulder, no contest. 40,000 compete. The rest of the city and surrounding cities are on the sidelines watching. I mean c'mon.

Lived in Colorado 46 years. I have always just hated Boulder. Makes my skin crawl. It's like a foreign country. Nobody who lives there is from there. Not all college towns are like that. Boulder is special in a bad way.

If posers and trustafarians make good running fans, then Boulder must win, because you can't swing a dead cat in that town without hitting one of those two species.

Most of the people who live in Boulder are from Boulder or the surrounding areas. Or, at the very least, went to college there and stayed afterwards. No one really wants to leave after their 4 years.

It's chill if you can't hang with Boulder, though. You can swing your dead cats elsewhere.

Lived in CO for 46 years and this dude is claiming that Boulder is full of posers? Guarantee there are more legit athletes, especially runners, in Boulder than whereever this guy lives (probably Ft.Collins, as that town has a Boulder hatred complex even though it desperately wants what Boulder has.)

I think whatever town is hosting Heps that season has the best fans. (Temporarily, anyway.) The best conference-championship meets in the nation, hands down, and the fans make them great.

The quote and question are about the quality of fans, not quantity of runners. Perhaps if Boulder had some venue - any venue other than a road parade for putzes that just happens to attract a few fast people - at which elite national and international talent regularly competed, the fans of Boulder might prove themselves better fans than those in Eugene. As it stands, the best running fans are in / show up to Eugene.

The obvious difference is the CO crowd is "one dimensional" - it is just cross country (have you ever been to a track meet there??); OR enthusiasm spreads over all events/meets

Eugene by a mile. Not even close.
