Ran a 4 mile race in November in 28:30 (I am a new male runner who lost over 100 lbs.. not good at all by LR standards, I get it).. last night I had a Fartlek session where I did one minute easy and one minute hard for 30 minutes and finished the session doing 4.17 miles in the 30 minutes (came through the 4 mile at 28:51 which was 21 seconds off my PR) My question is, how much have I improved? I slogged through this brutal Ohio winter running outside and not really getting a chance to test my fitness because the conditions were always, too icy, too much snow, too cold. I'm really thinking this was solid effort for me. Definitely some confidence I have been seeking since my goal is to go 1:39 in the half in April (My PR is 1:43, the only time I ever ran a half)
BTW currently doing around 20 miles per week with doing my speed workout on Wednesday. I know I need to do more miles but I seem to find myself injured once I push over 30 miles. After this half I will have to bump up mileage as I am running a full marathon in October.
