I think he dropped out around the mile, which I think he hit in the 4:15-18 range I want to say. I know he had dropped out by the 5 minute mark as Lawi came around the backstretch and there was a shot of solinsky walking the turn.
He stopped taking drugs--that's the prob.
I know he loves Schumacher but maybe it is time to move on. He has nothing to lose at this point by trying to find another coach who can bring back his career.
I'm a big Solinski fan and hope he comes back from his string of bad performances. Just plain quitting because your not running like you used to and not near the front of the pack is weak. He looked fine a mile in race and once he couldn't maintain pace it was give up time. Losing respect with each DNF, waiting for his excuse this time

He was right in the middle of the big chase back. Probably 4:20 at the mile give or take.

Glad you finally decided to take BadWigins suggestion. Mostly it was obvious, but it's nice not having to cntl f i everytime now.
Solinsky to follow Webb to triathlon, then ritz.
By the way he was so defensive about not caring if "everyone rips him apart" for the performance, we know for sure he is glued to message boards and it very much affects him.
Why not start steeplechasing finally?

Doesn't make sense for Ritz to consider tris, but it's hard to believe guys like Solinsky can't see their bodytype for what it is.
Outside of that strange 5 month span where he was ripping heads off, he has never been in striking distance of winning anything worthwhile. That's not to say he isn't extremely fast, he is! And at his BMI it's crazy how fast he is, but he looks more like a lightweight rower or triathlete than a pure runner. Why not make the switch while he's still somewhat relevant?
2016's three slots are taken then, no?
Just watched that flotrack video. He looks a bit unhinged. Obviously very upset with his race and doing the "right" thing by speaking to the press. Probably starting to realize the injury challenges he has faced have now damaged his racing psyche . I bet it's very scary for him now, the end of his running career staring him in the face if he can't get it turned around.
And I'm a Solinsky fan. Hope he can get things fixed.
Gotta be hard to watch Rupp run an AR in 2 miles, than go run a 4:01 mile by himself with 4 reps already done.
He will be retiring after the NY Marathon this year. His career is over now but Mary is always willing to throw money at track guys. 2014 will go exactly like 2013 with a couple of 13:30ish performance and everyone will say "he is on his way back" and then he will attribute every poor performance to marathon training. Then a dnf or 2:20 type performance and DONE.
I can see him going sub-13 again. He needs to hook up with coach Canavi!

We'd all like to think that we're machines but there are points in one's life/career where you just start firing on all cylinders and when the magic is not there, it's a struggle. With that said, as a professional athlete (Sol, not me), the presumption is that you are in a space where the expectation is that you are suppose to constantly be "firing on all cylinders." He's got to find that magic again. Just hitting splits/mileage won't do it and could give you a false sense of preparation - it's the fire that one needs.

You're aware that body type can change, right?

You're unaware that it can't? Sorry dude, somatotype is fixed. Joint capsule size, bone diameter and muscle attachment points remain unchanged regardless of exercise/stretching/steroids/etc.
Flex your bicep and count how many fingers you can place between your bicep and forearm, probably 3 if you're distance running ectomorph. No matter how much lifting and steroids, this will never change, and you will always have a small biceps length and width. Maybe one out of a million (300+) in America have 1 finger or less space between biceps and forearm, without training. Think Arnie. They will always be big, and will easily and quickly get bigger with basic lifting.
