I want to know the fastest mile pr of someone claiming to not be a runner. I have some friends who claim some ROTC guy who has only played basketball can run a 4:04 mile and they are dead set on this. But he runs a 1.5 mile tt all in 7:57. So what's the fastest non runner miler you've heard of? Btw there no way in hell I believe that kid ran that.
I saw an ultimate frisbee player run 4:09, and it was very demoralizing.

One of my classmate's dad was a kicker for the JETS. They signed him after he ran a 4:20 1600. I still find it very hard to believe

I heard that Johnny Dawkins ran a 4:14 fitness test mile when he was playing for Coach K, at Duke !
Gareth Bale reportedly ran a 4:08 1500m as a 14 year old. Probably could run a lot faster now.
When I was running in college, the basketball guys always told us about their top guys going 4:20 and crap during fitness testing on a mile loop around campus. Then we wheeled it and it was 1300 meters or something. Those ballers!

Speculation aside, what's the fastest non-runner mile you've witnessed?
One of my best friends in high school ran 5:09 in PE off zero training. We persuaded him to join the track team and he set the school record at 4:16 senior year. He went on to run 4:02 and 7:57 by sophomore year in college but he dropped out after becoming a dad.
So many ex-pro cyclists doing casual training going 2:25-45 for marathons in retirement. Just goes to show how incredible pro cyclists are and how it's likely the superior endurance sport.
Gareth Bale was a cross country runner! So I guess he doesn't count. There's your fun fact of the day.
