Alan Webb Top-10 list

Is he the fastest ever toupee'd runner? I can't think of anyone quicker.

#5 is really the #1 in the Not Top 10.

They're just top-10 moments, not necessarily good or bad.

1:43 800, webbs bowerman mile win in 350 in 2004, and his 1337 win over rupp at turkey trot should be considered strong . 1:43 def needs be on the list

I like the way he tries to shake hands with people after that race and everyone ignores him because he made everybody hurt so much and they think he's a fool.

Webb displayed his amazing range in taking down Ritz in the 10k at Payton Jordan in 2006.

And convinced Ritz he should be a marathoner way too soon...

Webb honestly is one of the most talented runners ever born outside of the African continent.

It's a shame that through injury and nerves he was never able to fully exploit it.

I think it's something to remember and think back with amazement like, "How did he do that so recently? Rupp is a world beater and he's out of the sport." But one of his top 10 accomplishments?

As good as Rupp is, I believe that Webb has more wins in high profile international races.

Rojo - It's all about context with that turkey trot win over rupp. I don't believe it is top 10 material, but certainly worthy of an honorable mention because this was at a time where Webb was on the rebound (one of several) and it was his most solid performance to date under Salazar. Beating rupp and then hearing statements from Salazar that Webb had the most talent in the group (with rupp agreeing) had most of us believing that big things were going to happen. Sure in hindsight it was insignificant, bit this was the race that brought us tremendous hope that Webb was officially back.

Thanks for putting together that list Dingler. That 3:30 in Paris was pretty awesome. Shame he never broke 3:30 or won a championship medal.

I think you got the top two right. Amazing show of strength on that last solo lap in Belgium.

1. The 3:53 in high school at Pre. The only time in my life I stood up and screamed watching a televised track meet other then Galen Rupp's silver medal.

2. 2007 beating Lagat at the US champs for the win. I know Lagat was doubling back from the 5000 but Webb nailed a 3:26 1500 runner in a championship race. From front running the last 400.

3. the 3:46 AR. It was a time trial in a low key race but he was on the top of his game and looked like he could beat any runner in the world at that distance.

4. 1:43 800.

5. The 2004 Olympic Trials after leaving Michigan and running sub-par for a year. Screamed and flexed his arms and you could tell the bottled up emotion he had to deal with his whole career being let out.

6. The US Champs after he ran the HSR. ESPN cut into a regular scheduled MBL game to show that race only. He ran 3:38 and was maybe 5th but it was a showcase. I doubt they will ever do that again. Even if Mary Cain runs under 4:00 for a 1500 this spring.

7. The High School 3:59 indoor mile that made the cover of Track and Field News in 2001. The first U.S. High Schooler to break 4:00 since 1967.

8. Prefontaine 2 mile (Can't remember the year-2007 probably) Under 8:10 if my memory is correct.

9. The 10,000 he ran against Ritz and won in 27:35.

10. His high school district 1600 where he went out in 2:14 and closed in 1:52 to run a 4:06.

I forgot. The 3:30 Paris win should be in his top 3.
