Great news!
Who?
Did Wetmore not want her, or she not Colorado? Stolen from BUFFS country.

She was deciding between Colorado and Stanford, and it looks like she selected the school with better academics.

Stanford, where good runners go to suck.
Yeah, but she'll get a good education. Unfortunately that education is going to be her downfall. With all of the new hard schoolwork she simply won't progress as a runner.
Good for her. She'll run for half a season, quit, and then get a good Stanford education like all of the other great runners who go there.

The undergrad education does not really differ from school to school. She'd learn just as much anywhere else.
Track scholarships at Stanford seems to result in the academic version of road horedom.
College is what you make of it, especially for undergraduates. These "ratings" for colleges are primarily ratings of graduate level programs and variables such as research funding. How many athletes will ever be involved in the kinds of things that give schools high scores in these ratings? On the other hand, enough people are impressed with the name "Stanford University" that it can open some doors that might not be opened otherwise.
Is this Stanford bashing a joke? More female runners have gotten washed up at Colorado than at Stanford. Plus Milt has been coaching there for 1.5 years and is coming off an NCAA championship at Georgetown. This year Stanford had an American male and female in the top 5 at NCAAs in XC. Did anyone else?
Stanford is where great High School runners go to die. They do less then more talent then any other team in the Country. I almost feel bad for Cranny this is the last time anyone will ever hear her name. I'm glad Stanford runners get worse and not better in College they recruit almost as good as Oregon. :)

Chris Derrick would probably disagree...
I agree, Colorado burns out more female athletes than Stanford. Colorado has a notorious history with eating disorders among the team. Also she really wouldn't be coached by Wetmore, Heather Bourroughs would be her coach and that woman will poke fun of your weight in front other team members. There's talk that Wetmore will retire in the next few years and hand the program over to Heather. Elise Cranny dodged a bullet. If running doesn't workout, at least shell have her education and her dignity intact.

Nobody said that Stanford washed out more runners than any other school. They said that Stanford has a reputation for washing out runners. I'm sure there are many schools who trump Stanford in that regard.

That's not quite right. True, she would have the opportunity to learn (nearly) just as much (nearly) anywhere else. But the thing about more rigorous academic schools is that the culture and infrastructure contributes to learning. To put it another way, it requires more individual effort to "learn" just as much anywhere else.
That said, some people do better being an academic superstar in a less competitive environment while others need a more challenging environment. Hey, that's just like running where some athletes do better at smaller DIII programs than at high powered DI ones.
It ultimately comes down to what type of environment is best for her. And I would highly doubt that any of us know the answer to that.

This was not the case under Vin Lananna.
Depends on her goals. If it is to become a National Champion and go to the Olympics, and have a successful Pro career, then she should have gone to Colorado. Period.
She could have trained with Simpson, Coburn, Goucher, Kipp
Ok, so EC's decision is in the books. We can argue about whether it was the right one, or if Colorado would have been better. But you know what? That's irrelevant because she's made her decision.
What about the hundreds of other talented top level high school girls who want both a good education and a place to truly develop as a runner?
Where do they go? What schools/programs should be on their short list?
