I just went cold turkey one day, and decided to stop buying food that are really high energy dense foods and that I tend to eat too much of. Some are healthy but not in huge volumes. It's a lot easier just not having them in the house
I just knocked off coffee and tea. After a week of withdrwal I'm sleeping and feeling much better now. It's amazing the little things that diuretics and drugs like caffeine can cause. Yes you get a quick jolt in the morning but it's not natural for your body to be jump started like that. Now I'm hitting REM like crazy every night. I can tell by the vivid dreams I'm having now, along with the constant nighttime erections. Even my skin looks better which was one of the reasons I tried cutting out the diuretics. It's not good to drag the water out of your body.
I like your changes except the nuts. Nuts have lots of protein and other nutrients. The rest of it you can do without.

Sandwiches and hot dogs from 7-11s and other convenience stores. I'm more concerned now about food handling than I used to be.
Nuts aren't horrible, but I tend to eat too much of them, and they are extremely high in fat...good fat, but still, at 9cal/gram it adds up fast. Nuts are the most energy dense naturally occuring food in the world apart from pure fat like lard.
Also, salt can be an issue.
Once that can of nuts was open, it was all going down the hatch within an hour, no matter how many calories it was.
So better off not to buy them at all.

Fruit juice. Yeah, technically a beverage. Sue me.
Roughly same sugar content as soda but with no fiber ("pulp" doesn't count) like real fruit to buffer the sugar. I used to drink a half-gallon of OJ a day. That's like a six pack of coca cola. Blood sugar crashes were making me feel like crap all day.
Now I get actual fruit, both fresh and frozen. You don't need much to get all the vitamins and minerals of fruit juice.

macaroni & cheese
All dairy. Never felt better.

I hope you realize that dreaming/recalling your dreams actually means you're sleeping lighter and getting LESS REM sleep, not more.

That is a d@mn good post and it strikes a nerve with me. I've put on about 5-7 lbs and your post nails the reason why. (This is something only runners would be concerned about - can't mention to people that I'd like to lose 5 lbs or so) Bread, crackers, and especially the nuts. Yes they are healthy but once the can is cracked I polish it off in a couple days. The quantity trumps the health benefit. (The alcohol, I'm good with my glass of wine per day)
As far as your post, when I was a kid I drank only whole milk. Wouldn't touch the stuff now. Don't touch cheese cake anymore either.

Twinkies for me too. I don't miss them; I just quit eating them once I left high school.
