Right at the end of Salazar's mic'd up video on Flotrack from last week's BU Terrior Invitational, he says something to the effect of "we got two records tonight", obviously referring to Galen Rupp and Mary Cain's records - completely neglecting Cam's new Canadian indoor 5k record (even though Cam sacrificed what would have likely been a better personal time by having to pick up pacing duties for Galen earlier in the race).

I wouldn't say he doesn't care about Levins. He certainly doesn't care about him as much as he cares about Rupp and Cain, but in the video he was still clearly pulling for Cam to get the record and have a good race. When he said they got two records tonight he was also talking to only Rupp and Cain.

I noticed this too.
It was the tone of voice more than anything, there was a lot of emphasis on the "you take the second" it was almost aggressive.
Salazar has issues.
Yeah...but didn't I read in another thread that Cam needs psychological tricks to keep him motivated? Maybe that's what Sal is doing.

Looking for signs that Cam I'd being ignored, or used, in Oregon and I don't think that's the case. I think Cam is aware that he is still a ways behind Rupp, and is ok with being a work horse cause he knows it gonna make him faster.
I'm not sure I could handle all the form instructions being barked at me while I was trying to work out though. That would drive me crazy.
I agree with you. Letsrun posters are trying to make their own story out of this.
Cam is an integral part of the group. He's one of the guys. He's probably very good friends with everyone in the group. Also, it is worth noting that a good coach (which clearly Salazar is) understands that each athlete is a little different and needs to be coached differently (not just physically but the way you talk to them and what you say to them).
Cam is the man, he's very young like 23 or 24 I think. He has time to develop. He'll be sub 13 in no time. His outdoor pr is 1318 I think, so to run 1319 the way he did indoors, he will bare minimum break 1310 this outdoor season then continue to chip away each year til he breaks 13 in either 2015 or 2016.
Do we know for a fact that Salazar uses his second-tier runners as training fodder? Yes. But almost already, Cam is reaching levels surpassing Galen's fitness at Cam's age, so that might change. "Who will be Cam's training fodder?" That is the question.
Why all the fuss? When Cam gets the good NOPe dope, he'll run faster than Jim Ryun, too.

Cam is a great talent.
Just out of curiousity, how old was Galen when he first set the AR with his 13:18 indoor 5K? How old is Cam now?
Cam seems to have a lot of the tools and ability as Galen, just behind him on age and experience.
One of Galens biggest assets though has been his consistency and ability to be healthy. By consistency, I mean people criticize his last summmer like it was a disaster. Well for most runners a disaster means going from 3:32 to 3:38 or 13:00 to 13:15 or worse.
He was cheering for Cam on this video.
Cam Levins looks smoother than I have ever seen him look. I think he is doing good.
Alberto doesn't *coddle* Cam Levins. He knows Cam won't benefit from it.
And he doesn't care about Canadian records esp. when they are set in 2nd place to the US record.
Cam is treated like the underclassman runner in college. Do all the b***h work for Salazar. Pace the women. Pace the #1 guy. Maybe that's a good thing for him so the pressure is more on Rupp and not on Cam.

This sounds a lot like the way cycling works. Be a domestique for a few years to gain fitness and experience knowing that one day you will be top dog.
I was actually impressed with Salazar's post-race discussion with Fawn Dorr. He recognized that no matter what she'd done the record wasn't going to happen.
