I’m considering becoming a financial advisor with Edward Jones. I want to become a financial advisor and don’t have the knowledge or capital to start my own firm. I’m 28, make $52,000 a year (live in Ohio) and have a wife that brings in about $500-800 a month. We have a 2 year old son. I’ve been looking in to this for a while. I’ve met with some FA’s that have been with Edward Jones for a while and got their input. Of course, they all speak very highly of their jobs, but they also aren’t walking around knocking on doors 10 hours a day anymore either. Their tune would probably be different if I had talked to them during their first 1-3 years on the job.
I’m looking for honest feedback from those that are currently with, or have previously worked for Edward Jones. I’ve found a lot of positive and negative opinions online but would place more weight on opionions I could get from the fine folks of LR.
Some of my concerns are….
-The high attrition rate of new advisors in the first 1-3 years. Many simply quit even though they know they will have to knock on doors and make 300+ cold calls a day.
-The starting pay. It’s based on what you previously made and since I don’t make all that much I’m concerned I won’t be able to make it, financially.
Just looking for honest input.
