Galen Rupp and Cam Levins will be racing at Boston on Thursday 1/16 in the 5k. The American 5k indoor record is 13:07.00 by Lopez Lomong. Personally, I think it will be very close on Rupp getting the record; too close to call. Predictions?

DNS. Next question.
Correct. The notorious "DNS Galen" may start, will not finish.

if galen has a pacer through 3k, which shouldnt be too tough considering that's just 7:52, he'd easily snag the record.

Look it's RCS, the great non contributor.
I don't see an AR on his first race out. 13:15 would be good. I hope he starts his season here. If not, no big deal. It is also good to see Derrick running well at this time of year.
is this certified?
Rupp 13:09
Levins 13:19
I agree that Centro should be going after that mile record also

I know he didn't run it in January, but you're saying the 2013 chris derrick of indoors would beat the 2014 galen rupp? (Chris derrick ran 13:11 indoors last year)
Not what I said. I said i thought Rupp would run 13:15. Then I said it was good to see Derrick running well. I am just encouraged to see top US runners carrying over from last year.
Chelenga racing too. He looked flat to me yesterday in the mile but his coach says he's in terrific shape, he should at least be a factor in there with Rupp and Levins.
Um, does elfie rupp have the dosages dialed in?
If Galen Rupp was in tremendous shape and ran 3:50.9 mile and 7:30.1 3000m last indoor season, he would've run under 13 min for indoor 5K during that time and he ran better than any of the Americans including Lopez Lomong or (maybe)Bernard Lagat. Last summer, Galen ran poorly in major competitions and was not at his best when he ran 13.01.3 in brussels. Recently there were articles and videos saying that Galen is in better shape now than he was in the previous years. So it is safe to assume that not only will Galen break the American Indoor 5K record this thursday at BU indoor track, but he will shatter the 13 min barrier or come close to 12:50.0.

Lol, that's cute.
Anyway, what was his debut last year? A 3:57 mile or so? Yeah...I'll put him at about a 13:12-13:13.

I don't know where this idea comes from. I don't have the numbers, but it definitely seems like Rupp competes and finishes at least as often as any other American distance runner.
Could you name a few top level American 10K guys who have showed up and raced more frequently than Rupp over the past 3-5 years?
Looking forward to the race.
I hope Rupp saves his major (speed work) peak for summer this year.
What meet is this?
Is that what our sport has come down to, our best stars, time trialing on Thursday night?
One of the meets at Boston U...its all over flotrack
Rumor has it he's targeting Gebresilase's world record.

I say that he gets the 13:07 pretty comfortably. 13:00 is probably a stretch though. Love him or hate him, Alberto is pretty honest about what types of times he thinks that his athletes can run (and he is usually pretty d*mn). This video makes it seem as though the AR is in the bag:
