Men's or women's coach?
Women's, I'm guessing--but a men's is also very possible.
Is Coogan leaving Dartmouth to focus on coaching his stable of pro talent? It'd make sense and I could see New Balance footing the bill for a group, even if there are other non-NB athletes (a la Brooks Beasts).

My thoughts exactly; the John Evans-Coogan link.
I do think it seems a little silly for a shoe company, which all essentially operate on the basis of full exclusivity with athlete imaging, to underwrite these hodge podge groups the cross various brands.
A post-collegiate group based in Hanover will be an interesting fit.
Coogan is going to Boston for an NB group. All part of the drama to keep Abby away from Oregon.

Now that Nike has culled their herd, the D'Agostino recruiting process may get interesting. Will NB lose their heads and match what Nike may bring to the table? Buckle up!
Nothing would prevent AD from delaying turning pro until Nov. if she chooses to run CC (using her 4th elig. season). Now I doubt this will happen but it could.
Also I'm thinking another Ivy may be in the market for a coach?

I don't think Abbey has a fourth year of XC eligibility. Yes, she injured her ankle during the freshmen XC season, but she still ran during portions of it, including the 2010 Heps XC Championships where she finished 75th.

Annnd...it doesn't matter, because she's on course to graduate this spring, and the Ivy League doesn't allow graduate students to compete. IF she had another season of cross available, she'd have to use it at a different university.
Bingo
I would like to see AD go to Salazar's group. I think that's her best choice to get to another level. But she seems to be very loyal, so she would probably stay with NB and Coogan if he does coach a Pro group.
aw crap
major loss for the program
As talked about, it's Coogan:
Boston, January 7, 2014 – Global athletic leader New Balance announced today that Mark Coogan will join the Running Sports Marketing Team at the brand’s corporate headquarters as a full time associate effective January 15th.
From his most recent position as Head Women’s Cross Country Coach at Dartmouth College, Coogan will bring his unique expertise to the New Balance performance running team and will be involved in all aspects of the brand’s growing global running sports marketing strategy.
“We are extremely happy that Mark will be joining the New Balance Running Sports Marketing team,” said John Evans, New Balance General Manager of Running Sports Marketing.

I see AD as a barringer type - not necessarily going for the top dollar but rather the company that will stay with an athlete and is a smaller family. in other words, New Balance.
that, and nike having such defections/problems - that has to put a young athlete on alert. Does she want to win a silver medal and then get lowballed?

Based on what? Who has Salazar gotten to the next level?
"John Evans NB"
Is this the same Evans that's the Brandeis coach (or was)?

Yes it is.
Is New Balance starting a new group based in Boston? It would make sense considering the Nike and Brooks groups out there.
Abby was the program. The rest of the team sucked.
Pretty clearly, much of the motive for this is to draw Abbey D, who's a Massachusetts native, to New Balance.
