During yesterday's Universal sports coverage of The Tour De ski Alexander Legkov (Russian ,last years winner of the tour De Ski) pulse was shown as being 177 at approximately 67 minutes into this 35km event.
The commentators stated something to the effect that Legkov's max is around 190 and he is at 90% of his max right now. His final time was 1hr. 21 min.
It seems to me that his max pulse would be higher than 190 and that it would be difficult to operate at 90% of one's max for 81 minutes.
Interested in comments and how this pulse equation relates to distance running.
