Am going to Vail on biz for 5 days at end of month. Am already acclimated pretty well to altitude and am looking for adivce on where to run while there - preferably some nice long trails or soft surfaces and/or rubber track for intervals. Thanks to all.
I spent a couple summers working/running in Vail. The track at Battle Mountain high school in Avon/Eagle Vail (5 minutes ((driving)) from Vail) is usually open and its nice.
As for trails--they're all over. There are some good ones up the hill from the Eagle Vail Golf Course (stay off the course--the rangers are evil). If you check in at the desk of the local athletic clubs or hotels, they can probably tell you about more trailheads. Watch out for mountain bikers.
Doesn't that bike trail go from Eagle / Vail all the way back over Vail pass to Frisco / Dillon / Breckenridge?
The bike trail does go over the pass, but when I was last there, you had to get on it in Vail, as it didn't go further west.
Another good spot (not a trail, but still nice), starts in Eagle and goes along the river all the way to Glenwood Springs.
